My first trip overseas without my family. :)
Best trip of my life!
I have many tips/tricks for traveling to Bali that I will continue to add as I remember.
Do not book ALL accommodations ahead of time.
After traveling to Bali and then continuing traveling months after, I recommend to not book your entire trip ahead of time. You never know when you want to stay somewhere longer or leave somewhere earlier. I will, however, reccomend to book your first hotel/air b&b.
Travel around.
We traveled to 5 different locations, including the Gili islands. I highly recommend exploring and traveling around a new country! You don't want to spend money, time and energy to travel across the world ,or even across the country, and not see everything you could have seen! You don't want to miss out of that "majestic temple" or "best beach in Bali" because you didn't research or were afraid to travel around.
Hire a driver.
We learned really early on that taxi and uber is not as assessable as the US. You can find drivers via instagram, facebook, online searches, or through your hotels/airb&bs. We had 2 different drivers we hired to take us longer distances with all our bags. We tried uber one time and it was a nightmare. The arrival time for the driver and arrival time for our trip was off by HOURS. The only other way I would recommend for quickly getting around a few mile radius is mopeds. There are guys sitting around that you can just hop on the back for a quick ride and just a few dollars. OF COURSE always exercise caution anywhere ESPECIALLY in a third world country! I will say ,with full confidence, that I felt more safe in Bali then most cities in the US.
